Both pilots of the Alouette III from the National Air Force of Angola survived the crash with some injuries during a display marking the 39th anniversary of the Air Force at Saurimo Air Base on the 22nd January 2015. From the video it looks like the pilots were performing maneuvers over the limits for the helicopter and it suddenly disintegrated in mid-air.
During Operation Unified Protector, Malta saw many diversions from coalition forces aircraft. In this particular diversion, the Tornado GR4 experienced a hydraulic failure and performed an emergency landing at the Malta International Airport. Notice the red-hot brakes on landing. After the Solar Impulse prototype’s 8 world records, when it became the first solar airplane ever to fly through the night, between two continents, and across the United States, it is time for Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg to move on to the final phase of the adventure: the 2015 round-the-world flight which is set to start on the 1st of March. |
